Rhinomodelation is a rhinoplasty without surgery achieving aesthetic results through an infiltration of filling materials under local anesthetic.
The nose is often a part of the body which we would like to change. Due to its size, shape, deviation or the existence of a nasal hump, the rhinoplasty is one of the most performed interventions in our centre.
However, not all patients are prepared to go through a surgery. The Rhinomodelation or rhinoplasty without surgery is, in many cases, an efficient technique which offers very good results without surgery. Thus making it a valid alternative to an open or closed rhinoplasty, offering great advantages as it is an outpatient technique under local anaesthetic without the need for post operatory treatment.
Which problems can be treated with Rhinomodelation?
The Rhinomodelation is a relatively new technique which has gained a lot of popularity due to its efficiency, “simplicity”, speed and low risks. Comparable to lip sculpting or enhancement surgical techniques, many patients come to ask for information regarding this technique and to ask if their case can possibly be treated with a rhinoplasty without surgery.
The principal problems which we can correct with the Rhinomodelation are:
- REMODEL THE END OF THE NOSE, making it more aesthetic especially in cases where the end is drooping (aquiline nose).
- IMPROVE THE ASPECT OF THE BRIDGE OR NASAL HUMP in patients with large nasal humps or practically erase them in patients with moderate humps.
- FILL the back part of the nose which is well marked naturally or through consequence of a previous rhinoplasty. These are “SADDLE NOSES”.
- CORRECT AND ALIGN A SMALL INCLINE OR IRREGULARITY caused by birth, consequence of a childhood traumatism or scars of a surgery. The purpose of a Rhinomodelation is purely aesthetic. When there are also respiratory – functional problems, the solution is always surgical.
What does a Rhinomodelation consist of?
THE PROTOCOL WE FOLLOW IN OUR CLINIC
The Rhinomodelation is a technique which gives the possibility of good results, without the need to submit oneself to the risk and post operatory treatment of a common rhinoplasty.
Through a local anaesthetic we proceed with a filling of a biomaterial which can be permanent or temporary with which we achieve the enhancement of the volume in the deficient or sunken areas giving the nose a more harmonious global aspect.
In our institute, the technique is performed in sessions, at least 2, to obtain the best results. Each session does not usually take more than 30 minutes depending on the type of case.
The protocol of our Centre suggests that the patient have 1 or various sessions with temporary filling ( it is reabsorbed within approximately 1 year) allowing us to make a protocol sheet of the fillings received by the patient where the volumes are noted together with the exact places which have been infiltrated with resorbable material.
This process is carried out during weeks or months giving the patient time to adapt themselves and the surgeon time to analyze the new preferences which the patient has been transmitting to him. Once the definitive result has been obtained and the patient and the surgeon give their approval, they decide if once the resorbable material starts to disappear, there is the need to substitute it with a permanent filling. At this point we would like to clarify that the permanent materials have the advantage (when they are supplied with full guarantees and by professionals who are specifically trained to do so) that they do not disappear but are generally materials that are less secure and with greater side effects over the long term. Temporary fillings disappear but are safer.
Within our protocol we achieve a better safety for the patient and for the surgeon, and the periodical visits allow the doctor-patient relationship to secure itself which is essential and recommendable for a satisfactory final result. This also allows us a greater personalization as the definitive results depend on the expertise of the surgeon with the filling but also through his interpretation of the objectives of the patient.
In the Medical Institute of Facial Surgery we use Surgiderm® or Radiesse® as a temporary filling and Metacrill® as the definitive filling.
Is there post operatory treatment with a Rhinomodelation?
The rhinoplasty without surgery does not require hospitalization.
As a general rule, very few complications arise after the intervention and the patient has to observe how their body reacts to the material used.
The recuperation is very quick; the patient may continue normal life practically once they have left the clinic. It is recommended to be careful in the first few days when going to sleep and to try to always maintain the nose upwards.
